Toastmaster Speech #1 - Ice breaking

"Thank you Mr/Mrs. Toastmaster"

“Fellow toastmasters and future toastmasters........

I have been thinking long of what to tell all of you, today.
When I started preparing the speech, I was under the impression that talking about oneself was the easiest thing to do in the world. However, only when I started penning my thoughts, I realized that it is not that simple....and also that I have come a long way in my life.
Let me now gives, you a glimpse of my life in a fast-forward mode.

Dear toastmasters....
I was born and bred in the Sungai Petani - Kedah and have fond memories of that place...
My dad was an army officer and mother is a home maker. I did my schooling all over many places in Malaysia as every 2 to 3 years, my dad being a government servant will be posted.
I was actually a very mischievous boy back then. I recall an incident that happens when I was 11 years. When I was studying in the standard 5 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, I was deeply involved in the chalk piece fighting competition. Once a mishap happened which left an indelible mark in my life. I tried throwing a piece of chalk on school-mate sitting in the first bench. It missed the target and hit the teacher who had his back turned towards us. Unable to determine the source of the chalk piece the angry teacher made the entire class stand on the bench. That day, I realized that if one miss-hit of humble piece of chalk can make thirty six people stand on a bench for half an hour, then how powerful words coming from brain could alter the course of history of mankind!!!
However, thanks GOD for my parents’ good upbringing, I turned out to be responsible person.
After completing my A-Level, I started my working – in the Quality Assurance in Hitachi Electronic Devices S/B for 12 years before moving to MMI Industries (5 yrs), VS Industry Berhad (4 yrs) and currently with JCY HDD Technology. During these 22 years in the industrial manufacturing field, specializing in Quality Assurance – I got the opportunity to travel to many countries around the world such as Hungary, Mexico, UK, United State, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan....
With the passing of time, I realized that enhancing one’s academic qualification is very crucial in the current challenging world - to keep my head above water while I learn to swim to safety in the murky economic tides. After 10 years of working, I decided to further study. I did my 1st Diploma In Business Study, Advance Diploma Quality Management, other professional courses CQE, CSSBB before pursuing my post graduate diploma (Business Management & Management) from the International Institute of Management United Kingdom and continued my MBA (Preston, USA). At present I am working with a JCY Technology as Corporate Senior Quality Manager. For the last couple of years I have been enjoying my stint in this sector.

Apart from my profession, I spend a great deal of time with my family – I have a loving & beautiful wife and three beautiful princesses. My eldest daughter is 16 years old and I also have a pair of twins who are 12 years old. So my home is filled with beautiful ladies whom I love very much.

So, this is the brief introduction of me and I hope it would be a pleasurable journey ahead in Toastmaster club.

Now that I have broken the ice, I’d like to welcome you aboard as I embark upon my Toastmastering journey. I look forward to your friendship, encouragement and feedback, and I promise you, a generous helping of the same in return.
I would like to leave all of you with one thought "Smooth roads never make a good driver and Problem free life never makes a strong person”.
With that I end my speech and hope to make a much better presentation in my upcoming projects.
